At East-West Animal Hospital, we perform standard soft tissue surgical procedures such as spays, neuters, mass removals, and select other procedures based on doctor and patient circumstance.
We require pre-anesthetic bloodwork within 2 weeks of the surgical procedure to ensure that there are no underlying issues prior to surgery and to make sure everything is done as safely as possible to reduce the risk of complications.
Your fur baby is prepped for surgery by a team of veterinary technicians under the direction of the veterinarian. They are monitored throughout the procedure. Body temperature, blood oxygen level, blood pressure, and heart rate are all continuously monitored to ensure the anesthesia is being administered safely and effectively.
Post-surgical cold laser therapy is an option for most procedures to encourage healing and reduce pain and inflammation. See MLS Laser Therapy tab for more information.
We keep your baby in the hospital with us for several hours. A technician monitors their recovery throughout the day. Once we are confident they can return home, we will schedule a time for discharge.
We recommend all dogs and cats are spayed or neutered if they are not intended to be used for breeding purposes. Spaying and neutering greatly reduces the risk for many diseases such as uterine cancer and breast cancer or prostatic diseases, respectively. Puppies and kittens can be spayed or neutered anytime after the month following their Rabies vaccination. For large breed dogs, we recommend that they are spayed or neutered when they are closer to their full-grown adult size (around 6 - 12 months of age depending on the breed) to encourage complete orthopedic growth.
